MapleReach ("we," "our," or "the app") is a practice and study tool that helps Ontario students prepare for EQAO assessments. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices available to students, parents, and teachers who use MapleReach.
1. Information We Collect
When you create an account or use MapleReach, we may collect:
- Account information: name, email address, role (student, parent, teacher, or administrator), and grade level.
- Authentication data: if you sign in with Google or Microsoft (school single sign-on), we receive your name and email address from that provider. We never see or store your password for those services.
- Learning activity: practice sessions completed, answers submitted, scores, achievement levels, XP, badges earned, and time spent on assessments.
- Parent–child and teacher–class links: if a parent links to a child's account, or a teacher manages a class, we store those relationships to enable progress sharing within the app.
- Device and usage information: basic technical data such as app version and crash reports, used to fix bugs and improve reliability.
- Optional AI Tutor interactions: if a student uses the AI-powered hint feature, the relevant question and the student's answer are sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) to generate an explanation. We do not send a student's name or other personal information as part of this request.
2. How We Use Information
- To provide and personalize the practice experience (adaptive difficulty, progress tracking, badges).
- To let parents and teachers view the progress of students they are linked to.
- To send optional reminders and progress notifications (e.g., streak reminders, weekly digests) — these can be turned off at any time in Settings.
- To maintain and improve the security, performance, and reliability of the app.
3. Children's Privacy
MapleReach is designed for use by students in Grades 3, 6, 9, and secondary literacy (OSSLT) programs, which may include children under 13. Student accounts are intended to be created and supervised by a parent, guardian, or teacher/school. We collect only the information necessary to operate the practice and progress-tracking features described above, and we do not use student data for targeted advertising. Parents and teachers may request access to, correction of, or deletion of a student's data by contacting us at the email address below.
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell personal information. We share data only with the service providers that power MapleReach:
- Supabase — our database and authentication provider, which securely stores account and progress data.
- Anthropic — powers the optional AI Tutor explanation feature.
- Google / Microsoft — used only if you choose to sign in with a school Google or Microsoft account.
These providers process data on our behalf and are contractually restricted from using it for their own purposes.
5. Data Retention
We retain account and progress data for as long as the account is active. You, your parent/guardian, or your school may request deletion of an account and its associated data at any time by visiting our Delete My Data page — no app reinstall required.
6. Your Choices
- Update your profile, language, notification, and accessibility preferences anytime in the app's Settings.
- Disable push notifications from the device or app settings.
- Request a copy or permanent deletion of your data anytime via our Delete My Data page.
7. Security
We use industry-standard security practices, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and row-level access controls on our database, to protect your information.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
